KINGSTON, R.I. – First-year
Jaden McKee (Riverside, Calif.) won the pole vault to highlight the effort for the MIT men's track & field team on Saturday at the URI Invitational that was held at Mackal Field House.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- 60 Meter Hurdles: First-year Stan Nicole (Chene-Bougeries, Switzerland) posted the ninth-fastest time in the event with a personal-best clip of 8.73 seconds.
- 60 Meter Dash: Senior Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) registered the best time among all Division III runners at 7.20 seconds in the prelims.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
- Pole Vault: McKee cleared the height of 4.75m (15' 7") on his first attempt and was one of two competitors to clear that height along with Rhode Island's Mason Brubaker. First-year Leo Sun (San Diego, Calif.) placed fifth with a mark of 4.30m (14' 1 1/4") and senior Sawyer Garrett (Sherborn, Mass.) took ninth at 4.00m (13' 1 1/2").
- Weight Throw: Sophomore Justin Buonato (Horsham, Pa.) finished in 11th place with a mark of 15.01m (49' 3").
- Shot Put: Buonato was the top Division III finisher in the event as he took 10th with a mark of 13.82m (45' 4 1/4").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Nicole's 60 meter hurdles time is currently 10th in the East Region thus far during the indoor campaign.
- McKee matched his personal-best mark in the pole vault and continues to hold the top mark in the region.
- Sun is currently tied for the eighth-best mark at 4.30m.

- The Engineers return to action on Friday, Jan. 24 for the Riverhawk Invitational that will be hosted by UMass Lowell at The TRACK at New Balance.
