Seebeck's Second Half Goals Leads No. 8 Women's Soccer to 3-0 Win Over Wheaton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Two second half goals from Madeline Seebeck helped lead the No. 8 MIT women's soccer team to a 3-0 home NEWMAC victory over Wheaton on Wednesday afternoon on Roberts Field. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Wheaton 0 
  • Records: No. 8 MIT (15-2-0 Overall, 8-0-0 NEWMAC), Wheaton (7-7-0, 3-5-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Just over five minutes into the first half, Natalie Barnouw fired a shot from right outside the box into the upper corner of the goal for her 13th goal of the season. 
  • Seebeck intercepted a goal kick early in the second half and flicked the ball over Patricia Bandrup and into the far corner of the net at 48:10. 
  • Ayla Sumer sent a pass to Seebeck in front of the goal where she completed the brace as her shot went into the corner of the goal at 53:36 to make it a 3-0 Engineer lead.  
  • The MIT defense did not surrender a shot in the second half as the team completed its 14th shutout win of the season and eighth NEWAMC clean sheet.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Seebeck is now third on the team with eight goals this season as she recorded her second multi-goal game. 
  • Barnouw now has a team-high 13 goals and 37 points. The 13 goals ties her career high. She has 45 goals and 122 points in her career.  
  • Sumer tallied her third assist of the year. 
  • Ava Muffoletto and Maddy Noll combined for the shutout win. Muffoletto improves to 13-0. 
  • Bandrup made nine saves in the contest.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT remains on Roberts Field for a NEWMAC contest on Saturday, October 25 at 4:30 PM against Mount Holyoke. The Lyons will host Babson on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
