No. 4 Men’s Track & Field Opens Weekend at Harvard Crimson Elite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 4 nationally ranked MIT men's track & field team competed at the Harvard Crimson Elite on Friday evening at Gordon Indoor Track.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
  • Men's 60m Hurdles: Senior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) finished third in the opening heat, taking 11thoverall in 8.16 seconds. First year Stan Nicole (Chene-Bougeries, Switzerland) and senior Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) were just back in 14th and 15th place, respectively. Nicole finished in 8.44 seconds and Ellis finished with a time of 8.50.
  • Men's 60m: Junior Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) finished fifth in the fourth heat with a time of 6.92 seconds to take 22nd overall. Junior Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) finished 31st (6.96), graduate student Will Liu (San Marino, Calif.) was 36th (6.99), graduate student Paulo Martinez-Riviere (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) took 50th (7.15), and graduate student Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) was 52nd (7.20).
  • Men's 400m: Liu added a 13th place finish in 49.94 seconds. 
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
  • Men's Pole Vault: First year Jaden McKee (Riverside, Calif.) was tops among three Engineers in the event, clearing 4.90m (16-0 ¾). 
  • Men's High Jump: Junior Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) cleared 2.10m (6-10 ¾) to finish third. Sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was sixth with a mark of 2.00m (6-6 ¾).
  • Men's Triple Jump: Junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded a mark of 13.90m (45-10 ½) to finish eighth. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Truitt's time in the 60m Hurdles is the top time in the East Region this season and is .2 seconds off of his PR. He ranks among the top 15 nationally based on current times.
  • Nicole's time in the 60m Hurdles was a PR for the second consecutive week. Both Nicole and Ellis rank among the top 15 in the region in the event.
  • Clement's time puts him in the top five in the East Region in the 60m, joining Haertel who is currently fourth at 6.91 thanks to his mark at the Suffolk Relays. Liu now ranks in the top 10 among current times. At 6.92, Clement is among the top 50 in the nation.
  • Liu is one of five runners to go sub 50 in the 400m in the East Region, now ranking fifth in the event regionally.
  • Martinez-Riviere dropped his PR in the 60m after recording a time of 7.17 at the Suffolk Relays.
  • McKee, who has twice won the pole vault at meets this season, set a new PR with his mark of 4.90m that moved him to a tie atop the regional rankings and just outside the top 10 nationally.
  • Huckleberry now has the second best mark in the region in the Triple Jump, he ranks among the top 50 nationally.

  • MIT will compete on Saturday at both the Harvard Crimson Open and the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
