CAMBRIDGE/MEDFORD, Mass. – The No. 4 MIT men's track & field team won five events and recorded 17 top five finishes on Saturday, competing at both the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Center and the Harvard Crimson Open at Gordon Indoor Track.
Junior
Jared Steins (Chino Hills, Calif.) and sophomore
Jaxon Miller (Goshen, Ind.) completed a one-two sweep of the 800m at Tufts, as Steins recorded the 17
th best time in Division III this season in the event with a time of 1:53.40.

HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- Tufts Cupid Challenge
- 200m: Junior Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) won the event in 22.24, with graduate student Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) taking fifth in 22.86.
- 600m: Senior Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) had the top MIT time in 1:24.42.
- 800m: Steins and Miller were followed by first year Chris Chan (San Antonio, Texas), who finished in fourth in 1:56.88. Sophomore Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.) gave MIT four in the top ten with a time of 2:00.29.
- 1 Mile: Junior Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) won the event in 4:11.71. First year Renne Copper (Austin, Texas ) added another top five finish, taking fifth in 4:21.40.
- 3000m: First year Adarsh Iyer (San Jose, Calif.) took sixth in 8:40.69. Classmate Luke Rupert (Hill City, S.D.) added a time of 8:49.35 to finish 13th.
- 4x400 Relay: Junior Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.), senior Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif), sophomore Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.), and Steins won the event in 3:21.46.

- 60m Hurdles: MIT advanced three runners to the final, where senior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) finished third in 8.21 seconds, first year Stan Nicole (Chene-Bougeries, Switzerland) took fifth in 8.48 seconds and senior Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) was seventh in 8.66 seconds.
- 60m: Junior Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) advanced to the final, finishing fifth in 6.96 seconds. Grad student Paulo Martinez-Riviere (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) was MIT's next top finisher, taking 11th in the prelims in 7.10 seconds.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
- Tufts Cupid Challenge
- Weight Throw: Sophomore Justin Buonato (Horsham, Pa.) and sophomore Connor Kalvar (Floyd's Knobs, Ind.) finished one-two, with Buonato recording the top mark of 16.74m (54-11 ¼) and Kalvar registering a throw of 15.93m (52-3 ¼).
- Shot Put: Buonato finished sixth with a mark of 13.80m (45-3 ½).
- Harvard Crimson Open
- Triple Jump: Graduate student Fischer James Espiritu Argosino (Parker, Colo.) finished fourth with a mark of 12.85 on his fifth attempt.
- Polo Vault: First year Ethan Soderbloom (Stoughton, Wis.) cleared 3.80m (12-5 ½) to finish seventh.
- Long Jump: Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) was sixth with a mark of 6.65m (21-10).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Steins is now 17th in Division III in the 800m following Saturday.
- Neumann moved to 24th on the Division III national list in the mile.
- Clement had a pair of strong performances this weekend and ranks in the top five in the region in the 200m based on current performances.
- Neumann trails only teammate Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) in the mile regional.

- MIT will host the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday, February 15. The Engineers will also compete on Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University and at the Tufts Stampede.
