BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) took first in the mile and moved to 17th on the NCAA indoor national qualifying list competing for No. 3 MIT men's track & field on Saturday at the Tufts Qualifying Meet. The Engineers competed at Tufts and the NEICAAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, looking for one last opportunity to post qualifying times for next weekend's NCAA championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED – TUFTS LAST CHANCE:
- Mile: Senior Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) won the event with a time of 4:09.74
- 800m: Senior Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) was 11th in 1:56.98, one spot ahead of junior Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas), who finished 12th in 1:57.98
- 5000m: Sophomore Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and grad student Nicholas Medearis (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished seventh and eighth. Sun recorded a time of 15:12.67 and Medearis finished with a personal record time of 15:50.65.
- Pole Vault: First year Jaden McKee (Riverside, Calif.) took third, clearing 4.61m (15" 1 1/2").
HOW IT HAPPENED – NEICAAA:
- Triple Jump: Junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) was the runner-up with a mark of 13.80m (45' 3 1/2").
- 60m Hurdles: Senior Water Truitt (Houston, Texas) had the top time in the prelims (8.14) before finishing second in the finals with a personal record of 8.10 seconds. First year Stan Nicole (Chene-Bougeries, Switzerland) was tenth in prelims in 8.56 seconds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Arroyo is 17th nationally in the mile, one of four MIT runners in the top 33 in the event.Â
- Truitt is 21st on the national qualifying list in the 60 Hurdles.
- Huckleberry is inside the national top 50 in the triple jump at 38th thanks to his mark at last weekend DIII New England Championships.
