AMHERST, Mass. — Sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) captured the High Jump title as multiple members of the No. 4 MIT men's track & field team recorded several regionally-ranked marks on Sunday at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 100m: Grad student Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) was 19th in 10.98 and first year Sawyer Quallen (Princeton, N.J.) was 30th in 11.13.
- 200m: Junior Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.) was 3rd in his heat and 7th overall in 21.90.
- 800m: Senior Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) was 33rd in 1:59.62.
- 1500m: Senior Andres Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) finished 22nd in 4:04.50.
- 3000m Steeple: First year Luke Rupert (Hill City, S.D.) was 7th in 9:43.81.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Field Events:
- High Jump: Meng won the event with a mark of 1.90m, clearing the fourth progression after passing on the first three heights.
- Pole Vault: First year Ethan Soderbloom (Stoughton, Wis.) cleared 4.31m (14'7.5") on his second attempt at the progression to finish 8th.
- Long Jump: Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) was 4th with a mark of 6.82m (22'4.5") on his fifth attempt.
- Triple Jump: Junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) finished 4th with a mark of 14.05m (46'1.25") on his final attempt.
- Javelin: Sophomore Jonah Goldstein (Pasadena, Calif.) finished 4th with a mark of 51.08m (167-7.00) on his final attempt.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Whitmore moved to 12th in the region in the 100m.
- Quallen landed on the regional list in 24th place thanks to his time in the 100m.
- Praizner's time in the 200m is a top five mark regionally.
- Ilerbaig-Bajona is 41st in the 800m.
- Arroyo has the 35th best time in the east region in the 1500m.
- Ruppert moved into the top ten regionally in the Steeplechase, giving MIT three of the top ten times in the event.
- Shapiro is the number five spot in the long jump.
- Huckleberry is in the top three in region in the Triple Jump and 27th nationally.

- MIT will host the Sean Collier Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19 at Steinbrenner Stadium.
