NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The MIT women's lacrosse team raced out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back as it posted a 24-5 victory over Smith College in NEWMAC action on Saturday afternoon. In the win, senior

Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) collected the 100
th groundball of her career.
THE BASICS:
- Score: MIT 24, Smith 5

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.) opened the scoring after 2:25 elapsed, kicking off a string of seven consecutive goals in a span of almost seven minutes. Junior Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) contributed two goals as classmate Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) accounted for a goal and an assist in the run.
- Smith found the back of the net at the 3:41 mark, but MIT responded with 10 unanswered goals to enter halftime with a 17-1 advantage.
- Just over a minute into the third quarter, first-year Laila Salgado (Orchard Park, N.Y.) found the back of the net. The Pioneers recorded back-to-back goals; however, first-year Alexis Reinard (Nottingham, Pa.) buried a free position goal to give the visitors a 19-3 lead at the end of the frame.
- Thomas traded goals with Smith until the Engineers rattled off three in a row, resulting in the 24-5 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- With two goals, Julianne Flusche became the ninth player in program history to eclipse 200 career points.
- In addition to becoming the 17th player in program history to collect 100 career groundballs, Gwen Flusche tallied seven draw controls, two goals, one assist, and two caused turnovers.
- Thomas finished with five goals and seven assists, breaking the MIT record for points in a game which was 11 and was set by Laura Wacker '13 in 2012.
- Senior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) posted four goals and two draw controls.
- Lam registered four goals while sophomore Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) generated seven draw controls and two goals.
- Sophomore Ava Malysa (Manhasset, N.Y.) chipped in two caused turnovers as first-year Kelsey Dwyer (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added four draw controls.
- Sophomore Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) made four saves in the first half while junior Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) collected three saves in the second half.
