SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) earned first team All-Conference honors in the long jump to lead the No. 13 nationally ranked MIT men's track and field team on the opening day of the 2025 NEWMAC Men's Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Mount Holyoke College Turf and Track Complex. MIT earned three All-Conference honors and is currently in second place with 39 points.

- Team Standings: WPI (52), MIT (39), Babson (30), Coast Guard (27), Springfield (24), and Wheaton (22).
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- Long Jump: Shapiro captured his first NEWMAC title with a mark of 6.85m (22'5.75").
- Pole Vault: First year Ethan Soderbloom (Stoughton, Wis.) earned second team All-Conference honors as the runner-up, clearing 4.40m (14'5.25").
- Hammer Throw: First year Gavin Reardon (Ward, Ark.) was second with a throw of 46.73 meters (153'3"), earning All-Conference second team accolades.Â
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 110m Hurdles Prelims: Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas), Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) and Stan Nicole (Chene-Bougeries, Switzerland) all advanced to Saturday's final, with Truitt and Ellis finishing second and third, respectively, in qualifying.
- 100m Prelims: Junior Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) posted the top qualifying time of 10.64 to advance to Saturday's final.
- 10000m: Senior Carlos Villa (Wadsworth, Ill.) was sixth in 33:07.83 to lead MIT.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- The top two finishers in each event earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors.
- Shapiro earned All-Conference honors for the second time in his career.
- Haertel's qualifying time in the 100m was the 32nd best time in Division III this season.
