WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Paced by victories on the track from seniors Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) and Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) and junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) and field event victories by sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) the No. 17 MIT men's track and field competed on Saturday at the Williams College Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza (FIRE) at Lee Track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 100m: Junior Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) was 8th in 10.91.
- 200m: Junior Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.) finished 7th in 22.06.
- 400m: Sophomore Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.) took 15th in 50.13.
- 800m: Opshal and junior Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas) finished first and second, with Opsahl winning the event with a PR of 1:50.25. Glass was second with a PR of 1:50.49. Senior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) was also in the top 10, finishing 8th in 1:51.66.
- 1500m: Sophomore Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) finished 3rd with a PR of 3:48.03. Junior Sam Coutts (Pacific Grove, Calif.) also finished with a top five time, taking 3:51.18.
- 5000m: First year Owen Sondag (Fargo, N.D.) finished ninth with a PR of 14:31.98.
- 110m Hurdles: Truitt won in 14.41 with junior Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) adding a 3rd place finish in 14.92.
- 3000m Steeplechase: Cobb continued his dominance in the steeplechase, winning the event in 8:53.62.
- 4 x 100m Relay: Mozi Guobadia (Baton Rouge, La.), Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.), Will Liu (San Marino, Calif.) and Haertel finished 4th in 42.26.
- 4 x 400m Relay: Wyatt Vick (Chillicothe, Ohio), Ayman Noreldaim (Iowa City, Iowa), Andres Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) and Coutts ran 3:25.39 to finish in 8th place.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Meng took first in the high jump, clearing 2.03m (6'7.75").
- Pole Vault: First year Leo Sun (San Diego, Calif.) was 8th in 4.39m (14'4.75").
- Long Jump: Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) finished 3rd with a mark o 6.88m (22'7").
- Triple Jump: Huckleberry recorded a PR with a winning jump of 14.71m (48'3.25").
- Shot Put: Sophomore Justin Buonato (Horsham, Pa.) was the runner-up with a throw of 14.24m (46'8.75").
- Discus: First year Gavin Reardon (Ward, Ark.) finished 4th with a PR throw of 42.52m (139'6").
- Hammer: Buonato and Reardon both finished in the top ten with PRs. Buonato was eighth with a throw of 48.03m (157'7"). Reardon was tenth with a mark of 47.35m (155'4").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Opsahl is now 11th on the national list in the 800m, one spot back of Hassan's time from the Duke Invitational. Glass is currently 15th.
- Neumann's performance in the 1500m is 20th nationally, while Coutts moved inside the top 50 in the event at number 48.
- Cobb continues to climb the list in the steeplechase. He is now 10th nationally.
- Huckleberry won the triple jump for the third time this spring, he is now 14th nationally in the event.

- MIT will host the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday afternoon at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track.
