CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Senior Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) and sophomores David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.) and Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) each posted top 20 national times as the No. 18 MIT men's track and field team hosted the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday evening at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 100m: Junior Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) and senior Will Liu (San Marino, Calif.) finished 4th and 5th, respectively, in the Finals. Clement ran a time of 10.73 and Liu posted a a time of 10.81. Liu's prelim time of 10.66 was a PR.
- 200m: Junior Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.) finished 6th in 22.02 to lead four consecutive MIT runners. Senior Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) was 7th with a PR of 22.23. First year Jack Wang (Johnston, Iowa) was 8th with a PR of 22.29 and sophomore Dylan Bradford (Highland, Md.) ninth with a PR of 22.33.
- 400m: Sophomore Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.) finished third in 49.58.
- 800m: Whitaker took 4th with a PR of 1:49.87.
- 1500m: Neumann was 3rd with a PR of 3:46.32.
- 110m Hurdles: Junior Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) finished 4th in 14.49 after advancing to the finals with a time of 14.41 in the prelims.
- 3000m Steeplechase: Arroyo finished 1st with a PR of 8:57.33.
- 4x100m Relay: Grad student Mozi Guobadia (Baton Rouge, La.), Clement, Liu and Whitmore combined to win the event in 41.53.
- 4x400m Relay: Liu, Praizner, Sterling and senior Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.) finished fourth in 3:14.52.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was first after clearing 2.04m (6'8.25") on his fifth attempt.
- Pole Vault: First year Jaden McKee (Riverside, Calif.) finished third after clearing 4.55m (14'11").
- Long Jump: Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) finished 3rd with a jump of 7.01m (23'0")
- Triple Jump: Junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) was 3rd with a jump of 14.43m (47'4 1/4")
- Discus: First year Gavin Reardon (Ward, Ark.) was ninth with a throw of 43.29m (142'0").
- Hammer: Reardon finished seven with a throw of 42.17m (138'4").
- Javelin: Sophomore Jonah Goldstein (Pasadena, Calif.) was fifth with a throw of 56.79m (186'4").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Whitaker's time in the 800m is now the best MIT time this season, good for 13th nationally.
- Neumann moved to 12th in the 1500m, dropping his time from last week at Williams by a second and a half.
- Arroyo gave MIT two steeple times in the top 20 with his effort. Arroyo is 20th and junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) ranks 11th in the event.
