Sailing Earns Fifth Place Finish at Hatch Brown to Cap Busy Weekend

The MIT sailing team competed at four different regattas over the weekend, highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Hatch Brown Trophy. 

NEISA WOMEN'S SINGLEHANDED CHAMPIONSHIP | PROVIDENCE, R.I. | Individual Results 

  • Kaitlyn Beaver finished in ninth with 103 points. She opened racing with a third-place finish and went on to finish in the top-10 in nine of 12 races. 
  • Hannah Beaver took 11th overall with 134 total points.  

NEISA MONOTYPE TROPHY SINGLEHANED CHAMPIONSHIP | PROVIDENCE, R.I. | Individual Results  

  • Conrad Straden took 24th with 256 points with a top finish of 17th. 

HATCH BROWN TROPHY | CAMBRIDGE, Mass. | 5th of 18 

  • In the three-division event, the Engineers finished in fifth with 63 points. 
  • The 'A' Division boat of Robert Ulmer and Ellie Pinto finished in sixth with 21 points highlighted by a third-place finish to open the day. 
  • Will Kulas and Elliott Chalcraft took second in the 'B' Division with 13 points as they had sixth, fourth and third place finishes.  
  • In the 'C' Division, Ryan Hoffman and Sophia Woodbury finished 11th with 29 points highlighted by a fourth-place finish. 

REGIS TROPHY | BOSTON, Mass. | 6th and 12th of 18 

  • The Engineers collected 65 points over the Saturday regatta. 
  • The 'A' division Engineers 1 boat of Brooke Barry and Christine Keedy Brown took fifth with 28 points with the Engineers 2 boat of Emma Wang and Alice Colby finishing 11th with 57 points. The Engineers 1 boat earned a fifth, fourth and seventh-place finish while ending racing with back-to-back sixth place finishes. The Engineers 2 boat finished as high as seventh. 
  • Karya Basaraner and Alice Dunning steered the Engineers 1 boat to a sixth-place finish in the 'B' Division with 37 points highlighted by a fifth-place finish. The Engineers 2 boat with Layla Bursor and Tamsin Horne took 12th with 56 points highlighted by a fourth-place finish.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will compete at the Hoyt Trophy, Hood Trophy, and the Mrs. Hurst Bowl from Saturday, September 20-Sunday, September 21.
