BOSTON, Mass. — Kate Sanderson won the mile, Hailey Surace took first in the pole vault, Nony Otu Ugwu won the triple jump, and Lilia Ould-Hammou was the winner in the weight throw as the MIT women's track and field team hosted the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center. Â
THE BASICS:Â Â
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:Â
- Mile: Sanderson won the first heat and the event in 5:03.90, leading wire-to-wire.Â
- 60m Hurdles:Â Jadyn Grant took eighth in 9.59 after winning the seventh heat in 9.80.Â
- 800m: Megan Diulus finished in 2:24.24 for fifth. Sarah Hopp took ninth in 2:27.65.Â
- 60m: JoJo Miller was the top finisher for MIT, taking 24th overall in 8.30 following a sixth-place finish in Heat 2. Â
- 600m: Courtney McCraken finished 13th and established a PR in 1:47.20.Â
- 200m: Miller returned later in the day and added a ninth-place finish in the 200m in 27.16 thanks to a second-place finish in the opening heat. First year Nandini Warrier won the seventh heat to place 13th in 27.62. Warrier and Neva Miller (28.27) finished 1-2 in the seventh heat. Â
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:Â
- Shot Put: Lily Siegelman was 11th with a throw of 11.13m (36' 6.25") on her first attempt, two spots ahead of Ould-Hammou who finished 13th with a PR of 10.89 (35' 8.75") on her first attempt.Â
- High Jump: Katie Kempff finished fourth clearing 1.53m on her first attempt at the height. Amaila Christina Toutziaridi finished sixth, also clearing 1.53m on her second attempt at the height.Â
- Pole Vault: MIT's pole vault dominance continued at the Engineers home track, as Surace, Katelyn Howard and Elise Doyle finished 1-2-3 while recording NED3 qualifying marks. Surace and Howard both cleared 3.85m (12' 7.50"). Surace cleared the bar on her second attempt, and Howard made the height on her third attempt. Doyle cleared 3.55m (11' 7.75") to take third.Â
- Weight Throw: Ould-Hammou added another to win the weight throw with a PR of 16.05m (52'8"). Macy Brennan was second with a throw of 15.25m (50'0.5").
- Long Jump: Chi also recorded a mark of 4.84m (15' 10.50") on her second attempt to earn an eighth-place finish in the long jump.Â
- Triple Jump: Otu Ugwu captured the triple jump with a mark of 11.418m (37' 5.25") as three Engineers finished in the top five, including Kempff, who finished 3rd with a mark of 10.68m (35'0.5") and Lauren Chi who was fifth with a mark of 10.56m (34' 7.75").Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- Sanderson in the mile, Surace, Howard, and Doyle in the pole vault, Otu Ugwu in the triple jump and Ould-Hammou and Brennan in the weight throw each recorded NED3 automatic qualifying marks.Â
- Sanderson is now 24th nationally in the mile.Â
- Howard and Surace are tied for seventh on the national list in the pole vault (3.85m).Â
- Ould-Hammou jumped up to 26th nationally in the Weight Throw. Â
