CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. – The No. 12 MIT squash team opened the MASC Championship with a 6-3 win over No. 15 Navy but fell 9-0 to No. 6 Drexel at the McArthur Squash Center on the campus of the University of Virginia. 
 
THE BASICS:

  • MIT 6, Navy 3 
  • Drexel 9, MIT 0 
• Records: MIT 13-4 Overall, Navy 21-4 Overall, Drexel 7-3 Overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. NAVY:  

• After Navy won the opening match in the first position, MIT rallied to win the next three matches. The Midshipmen also took victories in positions two and three. 
• Isaac Torchinsky-Field and Zachary Starr won 3-0 matches in the sixth and seventh positions. 
• After dropping sets two and three to Johan Hodgson in the fourth ladder, Mero Elmarassy won the final two sets to grind out the 3-2 victory.  
• Rishabh Sharma, Eddie Xue, and Sean-Winston Luo all earned 3-0 wins.  

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. DREXEL: 

• Ethan Chan dropped the first two sets in the top slot but rallied to win the next two and force a decisive fifth set. Nicolas Serna rallied to win the decisive fifth set by an 11-7 margin. 
• Eddie Xue and Sean-Winston Luo were each able to earn a set win but dropped their contests by 3-1 margins. 
• Zane Kohn was also able to earn a set win over Sean Kiernan in the ninth ladder but fell 3-1 as did Mitav Nayak in the eighth slot. 
• Zachary Starr looked to give the Engineers a point, but he fell in a tough five-set battle to Thiago Cabrejos in the fifth ladder.

• MIT will play Franklin & Marshall in the third-place match on Sunday, February 15 at 10:00 AM.
