Field Hockey Cruises Past Clark, 5-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three goals in the second quarter helped MIT pull away from Clark University as it went on to record a 5-0 NEWMAC field hockey victory on Saturday afternoon. Meredith Wu and Ingrid Tomovski both produced a goal and an assist to lead the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • MIT opened the scoring during a penalty corner after 5:41 expired when Audrey Oh redirected a feed from Drew Hussar at the far post.
  • In the 21st minute, 46 seconds after a penalty stroke by Ingrid Tomovski was saved, Tomovski battled through the defense in the circle and put a shot on cage where it was tapped in by Jane Tortorella at the near post. The Engineers' lead grew to 3-0 with 5:02 on the clock when a pass from Wu went across the circle and it was knocked in by Grace Chrapowitzky at the far post for her first intercollegiate goal. Wu capped the scoring spree with a penalty stroke goal with 1:07 remaining before halftime.
  • Tomovski registered what proved to be the final goal of the day courtesy of a solo effort during a penalty corner in the 34th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Alexia Ninios notched two saves and her third shutout of the year while Rachel Reiter made 14 saves for Clark.
  • MIT ended the day with advantages in shots (26-4), shots on goal (19-2), and penalty corners (8-3).

  • MIT will travel to Connecticut College for a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 PM.
