Lance Nicholls is in his first season as an assistant coach with the MIT men’s and women’s cross country teams in 2026.
A four-year member of the Johns Hopkins University men’s cross country and track and field programs, Nicholls competed across cross country, indoor track and outdoor track for the Blue Jays. On the track, he raced primarily in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, earning Centennial Conference All-Conference honors in the steeplechase in 2026.
Since graduating from Hopkins in May 2026 with a B.S. in Mechanical engineering, Nicholls has continued competing as a distance runner, including a 10th place finish in the Cleveland marathon in a Boston qualifying time of 2:42:22. Prior to Hopkins, he had a diverse athletic background as a 13-time varsity letterwinner across basketball, soccer, cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, highlighted by a state championship in soccer.
Nicholls is currently pursuing an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in biomechanics. Alongside his graduate studies, he works as a Graduate R&D Mechanical Engineering Co-Op at Insulet Corporation.
