No. 8 Women's Soccer Bests Babson 3-0 in Key NEWMAC Contest

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The No. 8 MIT women's soccer team extends its winning streak over NEWMAC opponents to 27 as the Engineers defeated Babson 3-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Babson 0 
  • Records: No. 8 MIT (14-2-0 Overall, 7-0-0 NEWMAC), Babson (6-2-5 Overall, 5-1-1) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Off a reset after a Babson foul, Madeline Seebeck got her head on the ball that was punched away by the Babson keeper and scored the first of the day for the Engineers at 23:58.  
  • Both teams' defenses were on point in the first 45 minutes of play with MIT allowing the Beavers to take two shots while the Engineers got three off.  
  • Shreya Kalyan lifted a pass from just outside the box to the middle of the goal. Amara Ukomadu came over from the fa-side as her one-touch ball tucked into the right corner of the goal at 63:05. 
  • Skye Williams sent the ball to Andrea Cummings whose no-look side pass went straight to Ukomadu who lifted the ball over the outstretched hands of Maisie Creamer at 65:11 to give MIT a 3-0 lead.  
  • The MIT defense stifled the Babson offense in the second half, allowing just three shots in the second half with none on goal to secure the shutout win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • With the win, the Engineers extend their NEWMAC win streak to 27 and have earned a shutout win in all seven of their NEWMAC games this season. MIT posted its 12th clean sheet this season which ranks tied for the most in DIII.  
  • Ukomadu has scored in three of her last four four games, with today being the first multi-goal game of her career. She now has four goals on the season. 
  • Seebeck recorded her sixth goal of the season. Kalyan got her first assist of the season while Williams got her second and Cummings her third.  
  • Ava Muffoletto made one save in her 45 minutes of play and is now 12-0 on the season. Maddy Noll played the second half for MIT. 
  • Creamer made four saves in goal for Babson. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to Roberts Field for a 4:00 PM match on Wednesday, October 22 against Wheaton. The Beavers head to Smith for a 3:00 PM contest on the 22nd.
