Sport Shorts Spotlight: MIT Sweeps NEWMAC Cross Country Championships
MIT cross country continued its conference dominance on Saturday as both the No. 11 men’s and No. 2 women’s teams captured NEWMAC Championships at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.The men’s team claimed its 27th straight title, led by senior Tim Neumann, who won the individual crown in 25:07.9 to earn NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors. MIT swept the top three spots and placed seven runners in the top ten, with first-year Sam Hansen earning Rookie of the Year after finishing eighth.The women’s team secured its 18th consecutive championship, placing seven runners in the top ten for a dominant victory. Senior Kate Sanderson led the way with a runner-up finish in 21:38.2, while graduate student Gillian Roeder was recognized with the inaugural Laurels of Academic Excellence award for the highest GPA among competitors.
